Hugh E. McGuire, Jr. joined the Firm in May 2008 and practices primarily in the area of Governmental Affairs, Land Use and Development Law, Agricultural Law, and Corporate and Commercial transactions. His 32 years of experience includes arguments before the Florida Cabinet, representation of clients before other state and local governmental agencies, boards, and commissions, trials in state and federal courts. Mr. McGuire was recently appointed by Governor Crist to the Board of the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority. He is also currently the Chairman of the North County Partnership, a group of 22 developers working as a public/private partnership with Manatee County in planning and constructing infrastructure in the North County area. As part of his representation of developers and businesses, Mr. McGuire has been continually involved in the financing and transactional aspects of many residential and business transactions. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. McGuire was a partner in the firm of Holland & Knight, LLP. Mr. McGuire also was attorney for the City of Palmetto for 25 years and represented local fire districts. As a sixth generation Manatee County resident, Mr. McGuire is active in civic affairs. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Synovus Bank. He is past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Manatee County Chamber of Commerce and is past President of the Manatee Community Blood Center, as well as a former member of the Board of Trustees of Manatee Community College. In 2001, Mr. McGuire was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Manatee County Bar Association for his involvement with community service organizations and pro bono legal services. Mr. McGuire received his Juris Doctor Degree from Mercer University Law School in Macon, Georgia. He has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1971, and is a past Chairman of the Florida Bar Grievance Committee for the Twelfth Judicial Circuit. He is licensed to practice in all Florida courts, the Federal District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a member of the Manatee County Bar Association, of which he served as a member of the Board of Directors and as its President (1990-1991). Back to Attorneys Page |
